FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Asked and answered, especially for you
DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT
Yes, a 50% deposit is required (25% for orders over $500) at the time your order is placed unless otherwise discussed. A spot on the schedule is not guaranteed until the deposit is paid in full.
OUR PLANS HAVE CHANGED, WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
As a mom of four, I fully understand that sometimes life just happens! Communication and honesty are key business practices for me and I appreciate it in return. Deposits are fully refundable if written notice is given no less than 7 days prior (14 days for orders over $500) to the pick up date. Once an order is placed, I almost immediately purchase decor or customized items to ensure its quality and timely arrival to fulfill your order. If I am unable to return the decor ordered specifically to complete your order, and it can’t be reused, that cost will be deducted from the deposit.
Orders canceled 3-7 days prior (7-13 days for orders over $500) to the agreed upon pick up date will be returned at 50%. (Ex: you paid a $50 deposit, you cancel 5 days prior, you receive a $25 refund). Orders canceled within 72 hours (7 days for orders over $500) of the pick up date will forfeit the deposit unless otherwise discussed. Should I have to cancel your order for any emergent or extenuating circumstance, I will communicate with you promptly and your deposit will be returned at 100% no matter when it occurs.
CAN YOU DESIGN A CAKE EXACTLY LIKE I SAW ON PINTEREST?
The simple answer is, yes. However, it’s not so black and white. I certainly appreciate and welcome any reference photos you have to ensure we are on the same page with your desires for the event. Each baker is unique, each cake is unique, and the design will reflect that. There are many factors that play into a picture vs. reality. Things like budget, design ideas, tool preferences, lighting, flavors, etc. will almost guarantee that no two cakes will ever be exactly the same. Have an open mind and I ensure your items will be perfect for your event!
CAN YOU MAKE ALLERGEN FRIENDLY CAKES AND TREATS?
Of course! Almost everything I offer can be made without specific major allergens upon request. There will be an increased cost on items based on the increased cost of ingredients, that will be openly discussed prior to finalizing your order. If the allergen results in life threatening or anaphylactic reactions due to potential cross contamination, I will refuse the order for safety and liability reasons. Everything is baked and decorated in the same kitchen my family of 6 enjoys every snack and meal in. It would be reckless and irresponsible to guarantee there is no risk of cross contamination.
PLEASE INFORM ME OF ANY ALLERGEN DURING ORDERING! Even if your order does not openly contain an allergen, I am often baking multiple orders at a time. There are also certain decorating items and techniques that quietly contain major allergens.
DO YOUR CAKES AND TREATS CONTAIN ARTIFICIAL DYES?
Quick answer: no! The base of every single item is baked and created from scratch so I control every ingredient!
The caveats: Once artificial color is intentionally added to create the desired design or color scheme, that answer becomes yes. The standard gel and oil based colors I use contain artificial dyes. Additionally, things such as Red Velvet cake contain Red 40; it can be omitted which only effects the color, not taste. Shall we just call that Delicious Velvet cake? Should you need colorful creations to be dye free, that is possible with advance notice and an increased cost to be discussed when ordering. Artificial DYE FREE food colorings are available but they cost much more so, at this time, I do not keep them in stock.
DO YOU DELIVER?
The short answer is no, however, there are exceptions to every rule. All orders are required to be picked up in Saint Leonard, MD unless otherwise discussed. If I am going to be around a mutually convenient location and time, and your order is ready, I can meet you at no charge. If delivery for your big event is something you absolutely need to ensure the day runs smoothly (i.e. weddings), please let me know and we can work something out for an additional fee if I am available.
I LOVE YOUR CAKES BUT MY BUDGET IS LIMITED, CAN YOU HELP?
Absolutely! Do not hesitate to reach out. Every event deserves sweet treats and every special person in your life deserves to be celebrated. Whether your budget is $50 or $5000, I am certain we can discuss options and elements that will suit your needs!
I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MY ORDER, CAN I GET A REFUND?
This requires detailed discussion on a case-by-case basis and can’t be given a yes or no answer. If everything discussed in the ordering phase was delivered, the likelihood of wanting or getting a refund is very low. If there was a mistake made on my end, partial or full refunds are not out of the question but, again, discussion is required. I will make every possible attempt to reconcile any issues through open and mutually respectful communication.
I ORDERED A CAKE FOR 25-30 PEOPLE AND ONLY GOT 10 SLICES, CAN I GET A REFUND?
Unfortunately, no. There is a difference in party setting servings, wedding party servings, and a cake cutting free for all. Please discuss which serving option you desire before placing your order. Four Creations is not responsible for cake being cut in a way that is not adequate to serve the amount of people it was intended to serve.
I CAN GO TO A GROCERY STORE AND GET A CAKE FOR HALF THE PRICE, WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE FOUR CREATIONS?
Yes, you certainly can - sort of. A small business of any kind will never be able to compete with a corporation. Grocery chains are privy to wholesale pricing, minimum wage workers, and unlimited resources. They mass produce cakes at near fractions of the cost it takes a small business baker to do.
I can ensure you that when you choose a small business baker such as Four Creations, you are receiving high quality, homemade, custom designs and flavors in every single dessert. You can call, text, or email anytime to discuss endless options and preferences with the guarantee that I will personally be handling your order from start to finish. You are choosing to spend your money directly supporting my family of 6 rather than a CEO making millions. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making that choice!
HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY CAKE, CUPCAKES, AND/OR CAKE POPS AFTER I RECEIVE THEM?
Super important question!!
-
Pickup and carry the cake box from the bottom only. Never from the top or sides.
-
Keep the cake level at all times - during transport, storage, and display.
-
Place the cake in an air conditioned vehicle: drive slowly avoiding sudden stops and sharp turns.
-
Store cake in the box in a fridge or freezer and keep away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. If your event is within 24 hours of receiving, the fridge is sufficient. Should the event be further out, the freezer is a great option to keep your cake as fresh as possible.
-
Take cake out of the fridge to display 1-2 hours before serving and serve at room temperature. If storing in the freezer, take the cake out 3-4 hours before.
-
Cakes with fondant elements: fondant will sweat with temperature changes (i.e. fridge to counter, inside to outside). If this happens, take a non-fibrous towel and gently dab the condensation off. Do not rub the elements as it will smear the colors or designs.
- Use a sturdy cake stand at least an inch larger than the cake board.
-
Remove all non-edible decor before cutting and serving.
-
Store leftover cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
-
Be sure to ask if your cake contains support rods or dowels. If so, do not smash faces in cakes and remove before cutting.
-
For cake pops follow the 1, 2, 3 rule: 1 week at room temperature, 2 weeks in the fridge, 3 months in the freezer.
